Reading together changes lives

30.09.2019

Reading together changes lives! It’s not just us who say it, it’s also specialized studies that show that reading for the whole family has positive results in disadvantaged families, both for the children and the parents.

What does reading aloud develop in children? Their thinking, vocabulary and love for reading. Even if at first sight it seems like a grown up reading aloud to their child, who is snuggled next to them, seems like a simple activity, very few parents actually do this in Romania. This type of reading makes for good conversation between parents and children, it has an incredibly important role in the development of the children’s language skills and school results.

In order to do this as well as possible, grown-ups require training. 14 teachers in the partner schools in the project “Inclusion means learning for all”, from Hotar (BH), Dragu (SJ), Sînpaul (CJ), Budacu de sus (BN), Moșna (SB), Alțîna (SB) are preparing to offer very pleasant reading experiences as of the next school year to the parents and children in their school. Our colleague, Maria Kovacs, leads the participants, step by step, through demonstrative reading exercises and analysis and reflection moments about the type of books and their usefulness for various readers and contexts.

Each school has received 60 books through this project, which they are to use in the read aloud together activities with the parents and the children.
